Week 5 & 6

As part of our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle learning we had a special visitor come to talk about our waste. Her name is Sarah Langi. We collected all the rubbish for one day that we had thrown into our rubbish bins and Sarah talked about how we could rescue so much of it from going to the landfill. We were surprised to hear that paper doesn't break down so well in a landfill because everything is compacted down so tight that it doesn't allow oxygen into the ground.This makes it very difficult for items to break down and rot.
Sarah came back again last week to talk to us about how we can cut down on some of the packaging in our lunchboxes to reduce our waste and therefore our impact on the environment.

 


 Discovery

Discovery Time still proves to be the most popular activity of the week. Closely followed by having milk!

A large body of research indicates that children learn best through developmentally appropriate, hands on, student directed learning.

Another free photo slideshow by Smilebox This term we have been exploring Maori Myths and Legends in preparation for Matariki (the Maori New Year). We have also been rehersing our item for the whole school Matariki celebrations. We will be performing the 'Matariki Macarena'! Next week we plan to go to the museum for a visit to support our learning. Our Cross Country training is going well and we are now up to completing two laps of the front field. More details about the actual event will follow closer to the time. Next week... Our sounds will be m/ai, d. Our tricky word will be like. During maths we are covering simple addition & subtraction. On Wednesday we have trip to the Museum for Maori Myths and Legends. We will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning by 10.30am.
