Week 9 Term 3

During reading rotations we get to do lots of fun things to help us learn. It is also a great opportunity for us to use our social skills to work cooperatively with our friends.

We had our last lesson with Jane for the term this week. We started off the session with a game of Seaweed.

Friday was a happy but sad day for us because we said goodbye to Marley who is moving up to Napier. Jelly and Kian are also off at the end of term. Jelly is returning to Korea and Kian is crossing the Tasman to Australia. We had a dress up day and shared kai to wish them well on their new journeys.

Next week...

Our sounds will be ck/ll.
Our tricky words are mother/father.
During maths we are counting on for addtion.
Thank you to everyone for a fabulous 4th term. The children have all come such a long way. I am always so proud of their efforts and enthusiasm. Their cheeky smiles and great sense of humour truly lift my spirits.
I will be away on the last day of the term and Caroline will be teaching in Renwick 3.

Have a happy and safe holiday!

Week 8, Term 3

This week during maths we have been learning about fractions. We know that a half means when something is cut or divided into two parts they must be equal parts. And when a half is cut in half again the two pieces are quarters. These must also be equal in size. During one of the lessons Neroli cut up apples to demonstrate this fact.....then we ate them!

We love Friday Funday! We get to have special news whereby we can bring along a toy and talk about it. Sometimes we just having talking news which we love too!

We use our words to introduce, describe and answer questions in regard to our news item.
These news items then go back into our bags or in the office to keep them safe. We don't bring them out at break times because they are precious and we don't want to damage them.

Next week...

During literacy time we will be looking at rhyming words.
Our tricky words will be goes/how.
At maths time we will be adding in the 0-20 range, bridging the 10.
As we have the Masked Parade coming up if you can spare any time to help us create our masks this would be very much appreciated. Please come and see me.

Week 7 Term 3

The weeks just keep rolling by and we are nearing the end of yet another great term!

This week we have been working on our long vowel sounds. One of the tricky letters that pops up now and then as a vowel is 'y'. We have been practising getting y sitting on the line in the right spot!

On Friday we had a special guest, Roger Saunders. He is an awesome storyteller. We went to the Arts Centre with all our friends from Kowhai and Pohutukawa syndicates. We were entertained by Roger for over an hour. We laughed and laughed at his first story about a man selling hats! His next story made us think a little about what we wished for.

Next week...

Our sounds will be ow/ing.
Our tricky words will be now/over.
During maths we are looking at fractions.
On Wednesday we have a trip booked to go to the museum. We leave school at 10.45am and will return before 12.30pm. To make this trip happen I need parent helpers to walk with us and supervise smalls groups at the museum. Please see me if you can help. We have our fingers crossed for fine weather this time!
The school Disco is this Friday evening at 5.30pm. Tickets are on sale outside the library before school.
Caroline will be teaching in Renwick 3 this week on Monday and Wednesday as I am on D.P. release on Monday and a course on Wednesday.

Have a happy and safe week!
