Sue from Room 4 gave us a box of 3-D shapes. We got them out at Discovery Time. We made  ice creams and castles!

Some of us had been reading a book this week about popcorn so that seemed like a good excuse to have it at Discovery Time!

We have been learning about Diwali this week. Diwali is an Indian festival also known as Festival of Lights. People dress up in their best clothes, exchange sweets, decorate their houses with fairy lights and have fireworks. Drishti put on her sari at school so we could see what it looked like. It was stunningly beautiful!

During maths we have been learning to count forwards and backwards to help us with our addition and subtraction problems.

Next week ....
At literacy time we are focusing on capital letters and full stops and the 'ake' word family.
Our tricky words are take/start.
During maths we will continue with add/sub.
During Terms 1 and 4 the children are required to wear a wide brimmed sunhat. Please help your child to remember their sunhat each day. Alternatively a hat can be left at school.

Have a happy and safe week!

Week 4 Term 4

We have had another busy week in Renwick 3!

Quality printing!

Our Star of the Day had her special crown to wear!

At fundamental skills this week Brodie was teaching us about shot put. We were using tennis balls so they weren't too heavy for us. We had to use 'chicken wings and to push the ball from behind our ear. It was quite tricky because we are more familiar with throwing overarm. When we had finished our lesson Brodie was so impressed with our effort he gave us all an apple!

This week we have been learning about the events of Parihaka. The people of Parihaka were well known for their philosophy of 'Peaceful Protesting'. They wore white feathers in their hair to represent peace.

Next week...
Our literacy focus will be capital letters and full stops.
Our tricky words are school/going.
During maths we will be doing addition and subtraction to 10/20.
Our Big Day Out will be here before we know it. Please mark the 14th of December on your calendar. We would love to see you there.

Week 3 Term 4

On Friday of this week we had a dress up day to raise money for the 'Make a Wish Foundation'. The school had a fun day while raising over $250 for a great cause.

On Thursday we were treated a performance by the Te Pouahi group who are traveling to the North Island for a Kapa Haka competition. It was held in the St Josephs's school hall. They were simply amazing! We have listened to them practise tirelessly on the back field for a number of months now. We admire their commitment and dedication. We feel proud of them.
On Thursday evening there was another dress rehearsal at the boy’s college. Again there were many more spine tingling moments and lots of very 'sweaty eyes'! We wish them well but to be honest they are already winners in our eyes!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been having tennis skills sessions with Andre and Ben. We have thoroughly enjoyed these. We have one more session to go and Neroli is going to try hard to remember her camera!

Next week...

During literacy time we are focusing on word endings, ed, ing and s.
Our tricky words are does/everyone.
We will continue with skip counting in 5's.
Thank you to those parents who have responded to our survey in regard to fundraising activities. we really appreciate your feedback and input.

Go the All Blacks!

Have a happy and safe week!

Week 1 Term 4

Welcome Back to Term 4!
We have had a fabulous first week back at school!
At the beginning of the week we welcomed our new principal Whaea Pip with a powhiri. In Renwick 3 we have also welcomed a new friend Felix.

On Tuesday we had Fundamental Skills with our new teacher Brodie. We were learning how to land properly when we are doing long jump. It is called the 'motorbike position'.

During Discovery Time this week we made some cool tents out of sheets and the tables!

The highlight of the week would have to have been the Masked Parade! We were very excited to be there after all our hard work. On the actual evening it was very hot and we had to wait a very long time before we started walking but as you would imagine we were awesome! Neroli was super proud of us.

Week 9 Term 3

During reading rotations we get to do lots of fun things to help us learn. It is also a great opportunity for us to use our social skills to work cooperatively with our friends.

We had our last lesson with Jane for the term this week. We started off the session with a game of Seaweed.

Friday was a happy but sad day for us because we said goodbye to Marley who is moving up to Napier. Jelly and Kian are also off at the end of term. Jelly is returning to Korea and Kian is crossing the Tasman to Australia. We had a dress up day and shared kai to wish them well on their new journeys.

Thank you to everyone for a fabulous 4th term. The children have all come such a long way. I am always so proud of their efforts and enthusiasm. Their cheeky smiles and great sense of humour truly lift my spirits.
